Finland’s first Golf club

Helsingin Golfklubi, Tali, is the oldest golf club in Finland. The club was founded in 1932. The course was originally built as a nine-hole course but was expanded to 18 holes in the Olympic year of 1952. The expansion was largely completed as early as 1940, but the war interrupted the work and postponed the Olympic Games, both of which were ultimately brought to completion in 1952. The opening day of the course expansion was celebrated on the opening day of the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki.

Over the years, the Tali course has been carefully maintained and developed. One significant achievement is the global GEO certification awarded to us in recognition of our environmental efforts. Development work continues, for example through the ongoing implementation of a comprehensive Master Plan, which will modernize the entire course.

Helsingin Golfklubi is an association built on volunteerism. As in other sports clubs, committed volunteers are essential to Tali’s activities. Volunteer work is particularly valuable in junior coaching and in organizing competitions. Our members serve, among other roles, as junior instructors, drivers for competition trips, tournament directors, referees, and starters. Our close-knit community is supportive, and it is easy to feel at home in our club.

The club provides training for volunteers both independently and through courses organized by the Suomen Golfliitto. If you are interested in volunteering in any of the roles mentioned above, please contact the club office. In major tournaments held at Tali, such as the Erkko Trophy, the contribution of our members is especially valuable in ensuring the successful organization of the event.

The nearly 100-year history of Helsinki Golf Club covers a significant part of the birth of golf in

Tali is the home of golf in Finland. The hobby, which began in 1930 with golf enthusiasts gathering at the Helsinki Ball Field, quickly grew with the founding of the Helsinki Golf Club and its own course. For decades, Tali has borne a tremendous responsibility for the development of golf in Finland, including the creation of the first set of rules and the establishment of the national golf federation.

Tali has hosted both Finnish and European Championships, witnessed the early careers of future major winners, and helped nurture domestic top players. Helsinki Golf Club set an example by starting international competitions early, with the Nordic capitals' annual match, which began in 1938 and is still played every year.

The Finnish Open Amateur Championship, the Erkko Trophy, draws Europe's top amateur players to Tali every summer to compete for one of Europe's most prestigious still-played amateur trophies.

Throughout its history, Helsinki Golf Club has maintained a balance between competitive sports and recreational play. Both young and experienced members of Tali share a love for golf – a passion to advance the sport and improve their skills in playing it.
